Dear Members of Brackenhurst Methodist Church

My prayer is that in the midst of the challenges presented to us by the coronavirus and its consequences we are still keeping our hearts fixed on God. We have implemented very important changes at the church which you need to be aware of. The purpose of these changes is to encourage members and friends to adhere to the national lockdown announced by the government last night yet at the same time offer to all worship, community and ministry.  It is thus to encourage social/physical distancing but to remain connected to one another in new or different ways. These changes will be in place until Sunday 19 April unless the lockdown is extended.  If the lockdown is lifted on 16 April we will return to a more normal schedule on Monday 20 April 2020.

What is different?

All Sunday worship services are suspended. In their place will be a 30 minute live stream every Sunday morning from 08H00 to 08H30 via Facebook and available on our website  soon after the live stream. A small team of volunteers will assist in the making of the live stream. The Holy Week services are cancelled and in their place we will be doing live streaming. The Harvest Festival/Thanksgiving service planned for the 19April is postponed. Both Good Friday and Easter Sunday will be live streamed at 08H00 on Friday April 10 and 08H00 on Sunday April 12 respectively. No church services on these days.

Continue to use BMC’s Devotional guide/Bible study which is available on our website. The one for April is already available. You may want to, on Sunday mornings when the live stream is taking place, light a candle as a sign of being in community with all others tuned in and with the world as it is struggling to cope with the virus.

All other activities at the church are suspended or postponed. The church office will be closed from Friday March 27 opening again on Monday April 20. (If the lockdown is lifted) What will be available is much needed Pastoral Care, for instance, if someone has passed away, a trauma crisis or a serious illness. Someone from the Pastoral Care team or I will be available 24/7 via 072 150 1882. Please phone/message me if you need to. I will make sure that we all adhere to the rules for social distancing and the rules in place due to the lockdown. Rev. Ina Guy is seen as a vulnerable person and is therefore not available during this time.

Many of our people give financially to the church via the Sunday offering. This will, however, not be possible over the next few weeks. There are alternative ways to give financially to the church, namely a bank transfer, deposit at an ATM or EFT. If this is not possible at all for you and you still want to bring your offering it is possible to do so by putting your offering to one side and when things are back to normal again bring your offering to the church. For those who can make alternative arrangements I am providing the church’s banking details:

Methodist Church of SA Brackenhurst

First National Bank   Bracken City

Branch code: 252242

Account number: 59410009798

I am providing the banking details with a sense of deep gratitude to all who give faithfully to God’s mission in this world. It is really about responding to God’s goodness that we become faithful and often generous in our giving whatever that giving may be, financially and otherwise.

This will be the last of our weekly emails until the week of April 20th when we will do an update. I encourage you to stay safe and do everything you can to help stop the spread of the virus. Enjoy our live stream events on Sunday mornings. This is new for all of us and we are learning as we go along. There is no need to panic or be filled with fear. Fear is often the opposite of faith. Do not give in to or spread false or misleading news. If in doubt please phone me on 0721501882.

God bless and take care.
